History, culture in Southern Africa

Southern Africa's history began with natives, then with the Europeans. The culture in Southern Africa varies with art, language, religion, and customs. The natives in Southern Africa were The Afrikaners and the Boers, and the Zulus. The British and the Dutch and other Europeans came after the Portuguese. The Southern Africans celebrate many holidays, including Heritage Day, Christmas and more. Southern African artists paint traditional ethnics paintings. The two major languages spoken in Southern Africa are Khoisan or Bantu. Europeans are the ones who brought Christianity to Africa. Scramble for Africa Debrief

1. What strategy did you use to claim land?
We looked in the atlases and on websites to see which countries had the most of petrol, iron and zinc. We also got nine dice to roll, so we tried to get the highest number possible.
2. What factors did you consider in claiming land?
How much of the 3 resources: iron, zinc and petrol the countries had.
3. Who won the Scramble for Africa?
Think think France, Germany or GB won the Scramble for Africa...
4. Who lost in the Scramble for Africa?
I think Spain, because it got the least amount of land, and only 3 dice.

Southern Africa News Article

In Zimbabwe and Zambia, there is a big flood at the moment. This flood has killed 21 people and left 1,000 people homeless, and it may affect the farming. The flood could lead to malaria, and cholera.

I think this story is news worthy because it affects the agriculture and it is timeliness, has magnitude, unexpectedness.

Physical Geography in South Africa

The physical geography in Southern Africa is varies greatly. When traveling in Southern Africa you would come across rivers, deserts and dry climates, pans, velds, plateaus and escarpments. In Southern Africa there is a river called the Okavango River. Did you know that this river's water never reaches the ocean? Instead, it make a nice home for crocodiles, zebras, lions, leopards, elephants, baboons and antelopes. Even though Southern Africa has rivers, it has a lot of dry land too. The driest part of this region is the Namib Desert. There are also many minerals found in Southern Africa. Southern Africa produces the world's most gold. Can We Trust "To Be A Slave" by Julius Lester?

I think we can trust to "To Be A Slave" by Julius Lester. because throughout the book there are quotes and stories from people who have actually been in the situation. Also, his grandparents were slaves, so he probably heard a lot about their stories. Also, he has a lot of critical acclaim for "To Be A Slave." It is a Newbery Honor Book, and the New York Times said, "From history-and for our time-there's nothing better than Julius Lester's To Be A Slave, which offers the eloquent personal testimony of those who wore the shackles, and their flesh ripped by the lash, and suffered the most sickening outrages."

I think the quote, “Violence leads to more violence,” means when you kill or hurt someone it will just lead to more fighting. You can never just fight someone and expect it to be over. Someone will get back at you and make you pay for your bad deeds. For example: 3:2:250-280 after Brutus and the other conspirators kill him, Mark Antony says an oration that makes the throng want to get revenge on the conspirators with Mark Antony. So, again, Brutus ans Cassius did a bad deed, and now Mark Antony and the city will make him pay!
